Just wanted to let you know we’ve dropped a couple of bucks off the price of a Prudence MacLeod novel. The idea here is to make the back list more accessible for those of you wanting to collect full a series. Here’s a good place to start:
This book sets the stage for and is the beginning of the Children of the Wild series. So, if you like vampires, werewolves and more, get started now. There are five books in the series with book six on the way. Race the Wind (book 6) should be out early next week, so you avid readers like me have a chance to catch up.
Once again, my entire back list has been dramatically reduced in price. Okay, now here’s the peek into Race the Wind.
The sun was just setting as the hawk spiraled down and morphed into the woman right beside Merle as he walked from the barn to the house. “Jesus woman,” he exclaimed.
“Girl, you look like hell.”
“Really? I’m standing here, buck naked, and you say I look like shit? I’m hurt, Merle.”
“What? No, tired, I mean tired. You look exhausted.”
“Nice recovery, Slick.”
She was grinning, and he blushed to his roots. “You’re as bad as the rest of them. Git in that house and get some clothes on. Git.”
Okay, that it for now. Go shopping, read a book, and I’ll see you next time.
Last time I introduced you to some of Lady Hawk’s history. People have been asking for some background on Lady Blue, so, here’s what Penny will let me tell.
She was born to a poor family, named Penny, as her father said the birth cost him his last cent. That attitude continued until her fifth birthday when he didn’t come home from work. Penny Preston never saw or heard from her father again.
After her father abandoned them, Penny’s mother began drinking heavily. All her bitterness and resentment were delivered to Penny in the form of unrelenting emotional abuse. School was no better, for she was bullied and mocked for her obvious poverty. By the time Penny was fifteen she had contemplated suicide several times, came close twice.
When Penny was sixteen she fell down a steep embankment in the highlands of Scotland and there she inadvertently awaken something that had slept for long ages, and she was changed forever. She became Lady Blue, an elusive vigilante who fights the bullies, defends the weak, and isn’t gentle about it. You can find the rest of her story here:
I didn’t go into a lot of this history when I wrote Lady Blue’s story, after all, it’s her story of life after the change came upon her. Any and all of us who survived child abuse can tell you, every damn one of us dreamed of, and prayed for, that elusive supreme being to come and grant us the power, the power to make the pain stop, the bullying, and the emotional abuse, to give us the power to make ourselves safe. Lady Blue’s story is one way that might look if it happened.
Okay folks, that’s a look at Lady Blue. Go ahead, check out the rest of her story.
Now, on to other business. I’m really hoping to get Race the Wind out this month. Race the Wind will be the sixth book in the Children of the Wild series, more adventures of the Lady Hawk.
Just thought I’d show you a review of Rise of the Queen. Check this out.
For thousands of years the High Born Elves have languished in the chains of slavery, their great strength gone, their extra keen senses dulled, and their immortality broken. Somehow, in spite of their harsh master’s efforts, the royal line managed to survive. Now, with the aid of a deadly assassin, the heir is about to shake off the chains of slavery, expose the lies, and bring her people to freedom. And she has no idea the magnitude of the task she has undertaken.
Rise of the Queen is quite simply an astonishing novel that is wildly entertaining. As I read Rise of the Queen I could not resist reading it at all times; it was like this book was calling my name constantly because when I had to put it down I longed for it… yes, I am that addicted to this novel. Rise of the Queen encompasses everything great about literature, it has action and adventure, high fantasy and a steady, streamlined plot with brilliant prose… what is there not to love?!
Rise of the Queen follows Ariel, a slave, however, Ariel was not destined to be a slave, but instead destined for greatness and when she escapes with an assassin, her path in life will soon become clear and unravel bit by bit for the reader to enjoy and sink their teeth into. The land in which Ariel lives is full of Elves but sadly this beautiful and magical species has been kept in chains for thousands of years as slaves but hope is on the horizon thanks to Ariel and the assassin and soon they will go on an epic adventure to free the land and restore peace and harmony and let me tell you now book lovers, it makes for excellent reading!
The story of the wonderful Rise of the Queen is one that I adore; I love the fact that we get to witness Ariel go on a magical and sometimes dangerous journey. Ariel is born a slave so to observe her as a character change and develop is fantastic and made for truly engrossing reading. The fantasy within this book too is out of this world and kept me turning the pages because unlike a lot of fantasy novels, this one was entirely unique and original! It is sad that so many fantasy novels seem to blend with each other so to read a book such as this one that is unique as well as brilliant is truly brilliant!
The author of Rise of the Queen is Prudence MacLeod and I have to confess now that I am obsessed with her literature! The beautiful descriptions courtesy of MacLeod is breath-taking and bedazzled me on more than one occasion. As I read this book, I truly felt a sense of urgency to reach the end and I believe this was because of the author’s exceptional talent to place me right in the novel and describe her scenes (particularly the action scenes), in perfect and mesmerizing descriptive detail.
As I am madly in love with Rise of the Queen and think it is a unique and incredible story I have no choice but to award this dazzling book Five Stars! What is so great about this book too is that it is the first in a three-part series so when you get addicted to this book, you will have two more to enjoy!
Thank you so much for reading book lovers! I appreciate it so much and love discussing wonderful books with all of you so please, comment below and let me know your thoughts on Rise of the Queen; do you see yourself reading this book? Let me know all of those brilliant thoughts of yours below! Thank you so much again for reading!
Now we’re about to bring you the second of the two novels. This one stirred up some controversy and ruffled a few feathers the first time I published it. Yes we updated it, but I didn’t change the story. Why not? Here’s why.
I first wrote this story in the early years of this century to honor two couple of my acquaintance who have deliberately flown in the face of conventional thinking. Couple number one is a man and woman who have been married many years, have children, several grandchildren, and perhaps even great grandchildren by now. He is admittedly homosexual. But to avoid public censure, he married the girl from next door. They dote on each other, love each other deeply, and he swears he has no regrets.
The second couple is two divorcees who were friends, one lesbian, and the other not. They moved in together, became lovers, and are still together many years later. Again, they love each other deeply.
Both couples asked for anonymity and I have respected that, opting instead to weave what they taught me into the story. Please enjoy and know my only agenda in writing this was to honor these brave and heroic people.
Well, that’s it for this time. Keep an eye out for Deliberate Love to appear for sale sometime next week. (if the gods are willing)
Well, it appears that I’ve messed up. Trust me, it’s not the first time. What now? Well, I’ve been informed by those who are supposed to know this stuff, that I’ve mislabeled the Children of the Goddess Series. I’ve listed the series as fantasy/adventure, but I’m told that, in reality, the proper genre is Urban Fantasy.
Yeah, it really is a big deal. I’ve got work to do. So, if you’re wondering, here’s where this exciting urban fantasy begins.
So, there’s a few possibilities, folks. Get ’em while they’re hot.
Remember to sign on for our newsletter, and leave a comment to enter the contest. Contest? Yep, the lucky winner gets to be a character in the next book of the series, a cameo appearance, like Stan Lee does in the Marvel movies.
Look, here’s the cover for the book I’ve been giving you peeks at. As soon as it goes live I’ll post the links so you can read the whole story. What’s that? You want another peek? Well, okay, but first we all must admire the new cover, right? There it is, that misty coastal mountain range.
Okay, here’s another peek:
Kylie had awakened as Ella rose from the bed. Her head out the door, she saw as Ella entered Larise’s room. She followed in time to see the tigress vanish through the window. She hurried back and knocked on Igor’s door.
“What is it, Kylie?” asked Rhonda as she opened the door.
“Something’s happened. Larise and Bran are gone, there’s blood in their room, and Ella’s on the trail.”
“Shit,” exclaimed Rhonda then she leaped skyward through the window with a piercing cry.
“Shit,” muttered Igor as he ran to Bran’s room. A quick look around and he morphed into the wolf then leaped through the window.
“Sure,” muttered Kylie, “leave the human to pick up after you, bunch of shapeshifters.” She began gathering up the discarded night clothes.
Okay, that’s the last peek. The book should be available any day now and I promise to publish the links where you can find it.
All right, now for something different. If any of you would like to be a character in the next book of this series, drop a comment on this blog and sign up for the newsletter. One name will be chosen and the winner gets a cameo appearance, just Like Stan Lee in the Marvel Movies.
I was recently asked ( again) why I continue to write. I gave a few standard answers, it’s what I do, I’m a writer and can’t stop, etc. easy stuff. Later that evening as I sat mulling over that question, I had to admit to myself the real reason.
I’m 68 years old, I could have another 40 more good years, or I could run out of time tomorrow, nobody knows for sure. When I leave this life for the next one, what will I leave behind? I’ve always aimed for one main thing in this life, to leave this world a better place than I found it. I like people, and yet I see people getting more and more stressed as time passes. There’s the key to the question.
The stories I write have one overriding purpose, not to scare you, not to educate you, not to jerk your emotions around, but to take you away from this stress filled life for a few hours, maybe even offer you some hope. Join me in a different world, share the adventure, and be assured before you start, you will find a reasonably happy ending, even if the book is part of a series.
That’s why I do what I do, folks. These stories are my legacy, what I can leave behind to hopefully better someone’s life, if only for an hour or so. It’s my hope to reach as many people as possible to share the adventure with, so, pull on your PJs, fetch that mug of tea, and curl up in your favorite chair for a while, and let me tell you a story, make you smile.
Speaking of which, keep an eye out, there’s a new one coming in a few days. Oh, sign up for my newsletter too, more good stuff in there, button’s just a bit further down.
I’ve been telling you about the Children of the Wild series, with The Hawk and The Wolf being the last in the series so far, well not for much longer. Keep an eye out for The Oregon Incident, which should be here soon.
What’s it about? There’s something amiss in the mountains of Oregon. There’s an incident that catches the attention of the vampire king, and he sends the Hawk and Wolf to investigate. As usual things get out of hand pretty quick, and our friends are hard pressed to deal with what comes at them. What’s that? You want a peek? Well, okay, since you’ve been good, but first, if you need a refresher on the Hawk and Wolf, here’s where you find it.
He got no further as Igor was between them, shoving him back. “The lady said no. No means no.”
The man staggered back when Igor pushed him. “Why you dumb asshole, I’m gonna fuck you up ugly.”
“I invite you to try,” replied Igor as he tossed his jacket to Ronni.
The man whipped out a knife, but the bartender stepped between then with a shotgun. “Take that outside, now.” Igor nodded and turned toward the door as three more men rose from their tables to follow. Branimir started to rise, but Igor shook his head and Bran sat back down. The four men followed him outside.
Larise sat, wide eyed, staring at the door. There were a few sounds of a struggle outside then Igor walked back in alone, rubbing his knuckles. He sat back down as the food arrived. “So, this looks good.”
“Work up an appetite, did you, lover?” grinned Ronni.
“Da,” he replied. “I’m hungry as a wolf.” Kylie snickered and reached for the chicken wings.
Okay, that’s all you get for now. Keep an eye on this blog for updates, also sign up for the newsletter for insights into what’s coming in the future.
Today I’ll tell you a bit about the Elvish Chronicles.
