Progress

Hi folks,

Well, we’re making progress here on the recovery front.  It’s slow, but it is progress.  My Lady K is now having more good days than bad, and that is a welcome change.  Now, if I could only beat this damn insomnia crap.  I manage about four hours then I’m wide awake.  I had a few weeks of this last year and it’s still no fun.  I know, I know, welcome to the over sixty crowd.  I hear ya, fellow baby boomers.  I hear ya.

On the bright side, With K doing more for herself and by me not sleeping much, I am managing to get a bit more writing done.  Always a silver lining, right?  tee hee

Now, about ECHO, the sequel to SUVI.  The first round of cover consultations and the rough layout are done.  The completed cover should be ready any day now.  I know, I know, I promised you another peek at the story of ECHO.  First, here’s SUVI and where to find her. 🙂

Right, excerpt from ECHO.

The small ship, Explorer, settled to the frozen ground and spilled out her crew.  They began to search through the ruins, eventually arriving at the resting place of Morthel and Antha.

“Carefully now, Mr. Sacumbtu, carefully.  We want to keep anything we find fully intact.”

“Understood, Commander Drake.  I’ve about got the doorway cleared now.  I’ll use a vac blower to suck out the dust and blow it away, so we can see what’s inside.”

Great clouds of dust rose into the cold, thin air and drifted away as he worked.  The same for three others who worked at different shelter domes nearby.  Eventually he turned off the machine and called out to his leader.  “Commander Drake, I think we’re ready here.  Do you want to go in first?”

“You know I do,” she replied, excitement clear in her voice.

Light penetrated the small habitat for the first time in eons, casting eerie shadows as the tall explorer entered and cast the beam around the first room.  As she entered a smaller room, she found Morthel with Antha held in her arms, still embracing, frozen in that pose of eternal love and death.

“Holy smokes!  People, I’ve got mummies here.  Do we have any way to protect and transport them back to the Reacher?”

“Lilly here, Commander.  We can use one of my sample crates.  There’s nothing alive here for me to take home.”

“Thanks, Lilly.  Bring a crate and a couple of guys to carry it.  We’ll have to be ultra-careful, I have no idea how brittle these guys might be.  We’ll have to keep them cold, too.”

Another woman soon arrived with two men carrying a large crate.  The two mummified bodies were gently loaded inside, she set the environmental controls, and then the men took the crate and stored it aboard Explorer One.  While this was being done, the commander checked in with the rest of the crew.

Okay, folks, that’s it for now.  With any luck at all the next post will have a cover for you and maybe even a link to a sales outlet.  Let’s hope.

Until next time

Caregiver Fatigue

Hey folks,

Yes, caregiver fatigue is a thing.  I was warned to watch for it, but that wasn’t necessary, it walked up and smacked me between the eyes.  The deal is simple, there’s the extra effort required to assist someone in recovery, plus double the chores at home, and the thing is, there’s no way you can keep up.

That’s the hard part, admitting to yourself you can’t do it all, you just can’t.  So, having accepted that I can’t get it all done, I’ve chosen to ignore a few things.  (Excessively large dust bunnies, towering weeds in the garden, etc.)  Instead I have squeezed out a few minutes to write each day.

On that note, rejoice, for the Sequel to SUVI will soon be here.  All edits and rewrites are finished and we’re working on a cover.  So, here’s SUVI and where to find her, as well as a peek into the opening pages of ECHO.

Excerpt from ECHO:

Chapter #1

Final Entry

Struggling to draw breath, Morthel forced down the well of sorrow and fear.  Gently patting the cold dead form of her lover, she fought to draw breath and continue her diary entry.  “Antha has gone now, she has not drawn a breath for some time, and she grows cold.  I’m the last survivor.

“It’s only been a day since the asteroid hit the planet, stripping away much of the atmosphere and pushing us out in the system to a deeper orbit.  The power has failed, and the cold of space is creeping in.

“The collision destroyed two-thirds of the fleet, so only a chosen few could leave the planet.  Even though thousands were killed by the quakes, some people still had to remain behind. I lost the draw of lots, and sweet Antha wouldn’t go without me.  She stayed with me and so we will lie here, side by side for all eternity.

“I hope someone will find this diary one day and know by it all the joys of the colony, and of its sudden and unexpected demise.”  She pulled her dead lover closer as the racking cough from breathing the frozen atmosphere took her life, the diary still gripped tightly in a hand that no longer trembled from the cold.

Time passed, and the broken colony lay quiet on the surface of a planet that could no longer sustain life.  Ages rolled by while the small shelters gazed toward the sparkling stars, the feeble light of the now distant sun no longer able to warm the planet.  Eventually, even the beacons failed and stopped sending out their pleas for help, dust settled, and bodies disappeared beneath it.

Eons passed before the silent shelters felt another footstep, but these were larger feet of a different species, and even if the machines had power, the strange new voices would not have been able to activate them.

So there you go, good readers.  We’re hoping for a release in early November, but nothing has been nailed down there as yet.  Anyway, I hope this has whetted your appetite for more SUVI stories.   If you have already read and enjoyed SUVI, could you help me out by dropping a review on Amazon?  And if you haven’t read it yet, well, get cracking before the sequel comes out.

Until next time

Updates and More

Hi folks,

For those of you following the aftermath of my beloved’s heart attack, here an update.  After not one, but two heart attacks, with two open heart surgeries, all is well.  K is now at home, convalescing.  We’re facing a long road ahead, but thankfully we’ll get to make that journey together.

Now, on another bright note, I’ve been telling you of my two best sellers, SUVI and Lady Blue.  Well, Lady Blue is being translated into Portuguese and I believe there’s an audio book in the works.   Haven’t read it?  Well, now’s the time.  Here’s where to find Lady Blue.

Best Sellers

Hi folks,

Last time I told you about my dynamic duo, SUVI and Lady Blue.  It appears you agree with me because this past week they both earned their gold star.  Yes indeed, both SUVI and Lady Blue are now wearing Best Seller labels, SUVI for sci-fi, and Lady Blue for urban fantasy.  So, if you haven’t already read either of these, here’s where to check them out.

Dynamic Duo

Hi folks,

So far it’s been a good summer, and I personally have managed to find some extra reading time.  Sinfully delightful.  Anyway, here’s the same old question, stand alone story, or binge read a series.  Either way works for me, how about you.

Yes, I been working as well.  I’m about 3/4 of the way through a first draft, it’s the sequel to SUVI.  Now, if a stand alone story os for you, SUVI can fill that bill nicely.

Amazon

Having said that, I’ll admit to loving to binge my way through a series.  If you enjoy urban fantasy, the Children of the Goddess could be just what the doctor ordered.  It’s a complete series of seven books in total.  It begins with Lady Blue.

Amazon

Okay, I think I’ll sneak in a few chapters while I’m alone in the house.  Maybe I’ll re-read SUVI just to keep my head in the game.

Learn one SUVI’s story here:

Thank You

Hi folks,

Today I want to say thank you for helping to make SUVI my most successful book to date.  Thank you for the support, thank you for the help, and to those of you who took the time to  read and review the book, a double thanks.  Yes, even to the guy who gave it a two star rating.

SUVI was one of those books that demanded to be written.  I sat up late to write, got up early to continue, and couldn’t truly rest until I’d told the story.  Well, the beginning of the story, there’s lots more to come.  (Book two is well under way.)

Now, for the rest of you beautiful people out there, if you haven’t already read and reviewed SUVI,  here’s where to find her:

When the Light Goes Out and Darkness Falls

Hi folks,

Well, I’ve teased you long enough.  The last tale in the Children of the Goddess series is now available.   Even a goddess can make a mistake, overlook something important, and the repercussions of that can be all encompassing.  Worse yet, when the gods make mistakes, it’s we poor humans who usually suffer the consequences.

Now, as the darkness falls, the children of the goddess, the enhanced warriors of justice, must face that possibility.  Find out what happens here:

e-book

I will admit, writing this one took the starch out of me.  It was a roller coaster of emotion from the beginning, and even I didn’t know how it would end.  So, get your copy today, see what all the excitement is about.

Oh, keep an eye out for a newsletter coming soon, sign up for it below.
