The SUVI, Mankind’s Next Step

Humans have reached out to colonize distant planets, they had no real idea what could go wrong, but they soon learned.  The colony was decimated by an indigenous species they knew nothing about, and by a virus that species carried.  That virus tried to rewrite the human DNA, to make the host better able to survive, for the most part it failed.  Of the thousands infected, nineteen managed to survive.  They are the SUVI, survivor of unknown viral infection.  Their story begins here:

These three books document the struggles and adventures as the SUVI and the last surviving humans escape the planet and set out to find another home.  They will face many more adventures before they find that which they seek, if they ever do.

So, I’ll leave you with this and get back to work on the next SUVI story.

Until next time

First Step Into 2019

Hi Folks,

In my last post I gave you a glimpse into 2018.  A tough year, for a lot of people, me included, but not all bad.  My new series, Forgotten Worlds, is doing well.  Now, here’s the third book in the series, just out.  Jake.

On a long abandoned world a man comes to terms with some hard realities of life, it isn’t fair.  Here he must face his demons and try to live up to his own codes, his sense of himself.  Shipwrecked on an abandoned planet, injured, and facing unknown dangers, Jake must find a way to survive. Worse yet, his only companion is a super-powered alien woman who cannot function without others of her kind nearby. This is no place for a man who has lived all his life on a spaceship. Wait, what was that in the shadows?

Jake is just out and already has picked up some great reviews.  With no modesty at all I say, this is probably my best work ever.  So, get your copy today and I’ll get back to trying to top it.  Happy reading.

Until next time

2018 In Review

Hi folks,

This isn’t a review of the world at large in 2018, it’s a quick look back from my world before leaping forward into 2019.  2018 was a year of big ups and downs.  on the up side, my Forgotten Worlds series brought me more success as a writer than I’ve achieved in many years.

Amazon

On the down side, in late August my beloved companion suffered two major heart attacks.  She managed to beat the odds and survive, but it has been touch and go for months since the first event.  As a result, I’ve been writing far less than usual as I’ve been spending as much time with my lady love as I possibly can.  This in turn has placed a financial strain on the family.  sigh.  It is what it is.

However, having said that, all is not lost.  Lady K is finally doing a lot better and we have hope for a long future together.  Also, I’ve finally finished the third book in the Forgotten Worlds series.  Personally, I think JAKE is my best work ever.  Here’s a peek at what’s inside.

Excerpt from JAKE:

Twenty threw the rest of their fuel onto the small blaze.  “We need more heat to cook this right, I just hope it lasts long enough.”

As the flames rose a bit higher there was a rumble deep beneath them.  “What was that?”

“Don’t know, Jake, but I’ve got a bad feeling about this.”

“Keep the weapons close.”

Nothing more happened for several moments, then they heard a soft hiss.  Jake turned the meat he was cooking then sniffed at it.  It smelled good and he was ravenous, then he heard a second hiss above them.  “Ah for fuck sake, you’re kidding me.  Dammit it all to hell.  Come on, Twenty, let’s move.”

He surged to his feet, clutching his portion of meat as he hurried toward the exit.  <Door open.>  “Come on, Twenty, hurry.”

“Jake, what the …”  She suddenly shrieked as foul-smelling water began to drip down on her.  She grabbed her pack, and clutching her cooked meat close, raced for the door.  Outside, sputtering and swearing, she shook the muck from her hair and eyes.  “What the actual hell?”

“Sprinkler system.”

“You’re kidding me.”

“Nope.  I guess our little fire triggered it.  Meat seems to be cooked though.”

So there you go, a peek at the next SUVI story.  There’s a few surprises in this one, so keep an eye out for it.

Until next time,

Who’s Your Favorite Alien?

Hi folks,

Lately I’ve been asking in groups about who’s your favorite alien and why.  I’ve confessed a fondness for Tars Tarkas as John Carter of Mars was the first sci-fi book I ever read.  However, since the day SUVI 5 introduced herself I have loved the SUVI.

What is a SUVI?  They were once human, but no longer.  The SUVI (Survivor of Unknown Viral Infection) are few, and different from humans, they’re stronger, more intuitive, their brains function differently, and more.  In spite of their apparent superpowers, they’re more vulnerable than we are in some ways.

Here’s where the story begins and where you can learn more.

Yes, this is blatant self promotion, but believe me, if you like aliens, you’ll love the SUVI.  Now I have to get back to work.  Have a happy holiday and read lots, make Iceland proud.

A Winter Workout then a Good Book

Hi folks,

Well, the first big snowstorm of the year hit last night.  I spent three hours digging out this morning, now that was a workout.  The path to Kathy’s studio is cleared, the path to the basement is cleared, the dog yard is cleared, the deck is cleared, the path to the storage shed (firewood) is cleared, the driveway and the front step are cleared.  It’s time for a big mug of tea and a good book.

Which book?  Why, JAKE, of course, the sequel to ECHO.  The first draft is nearly done and by this time next week, it will be in the hands of the editors.  So, what’s it about?  There’s a teaser chapter at the end of ECHO.  Get your copy here.

Amazon

Now, here’s a couple of reviews of ECHO:

“Once again Prudence has succeeded in creating a wonderfully complex and fascinating story. Well crafted characters that pull at your heart and bring laughter, tears and wonder. I am so looking forward to the next chapter in the SUVI universe. It’s a bit like watching the original Star Trek unfold on pages. New places, life forms, drama and romance. Wonderful!”

“Great sequel to Suvi. Enjoyed it. As the author states in her afterwords, her writing style is a bit different but boy can she spin a good yarn. You should read Suvi first to know what’s going on in Echo.”

Okay, that’s it for me today.  Until next time.

Black Friday Adventures, or Abandoned City

Hi folks,

Yep, went to the city on Friday instead of hiding out.  My lady had a medical appointment, so off we went. It was spooky as hell.  I drove along normally busy streets, but there was no traffic.  Bemused, I remarked upon it.

“Look at the parking lots.”  That observation from Lady K showed me where everyone was.  I swear, there wasn’t an empty parking spot in the entire city.  However, that didn’t last.  By two o’clock there was utter gridlock everywhere.  I swear, if I was a student again I’d be working up a thesis on this phenomenon.

So, for the next week we’ll be hiding out and recouping from that exhausting trip.  I’ll be working on the next book in the Forgotten Worlds Series.  I’m really enjoying these stories, and actually wondering who or what these characters will bump into next.  If you haven’t yet read ECHO, here’s where to find her:

Amazon

What?  You want a peek into the current WIP?  Read ECHO, the first chapter of JAKE is included. hehehe  I know, I know.  As soon as I get the first draft done I’ll start posting teasers, I promise.

So, until next time,

Hard Travels and Great Reviews

Hi folks,

It was a strange day yesterday.  I went grocery shopping in the city.  I left the house at 8:00 a.m., the boats were running late so it was close to 11:00 by the time I reached the city.  By 1:00 p.m. I’d finished and headed home.  4:00 p.m. I arrived.  Dang boats.

Now, on the upside, when I got home I checked for reviews on Goodreads.  Here are two:

For ECHO:

Sapphic reviews rated it, really liked it

If you enjoyed SUVI then you will love this second instalment of the series. Following the lives of the crew onboard the spaceship ‘Reacher’ as they explore the universe for a suitable planet for the colonists to settle on. As with all explorations, there are setbacks, unforeseen situations that arise along with unexpected gains and alliances. This book has it all, not only that but we get a deeper understanding of the characters we were introduced to in SUVI. If you enjoy SciFi, mystery and intrigue then this is definitely the series for you. Very well written and kept me reading continuously until I had the book finished and was left wanting the 3rd book to delve straight into, unfortunately, I have to wait for the 3rd book.

You won’t regret purchasing this book!

And this review for SUVI

Amazon

I’ve enjoyed reading books with strong female main characters since I was a teenager reading about Ayla in Earth’s Children series.
SUVI held my attention and I was up all night reading, something I haven’t done in a few years. This was well written and I didn’t find any mixed up sentences or misspelled words.
I really hope this is the first of a long series. I’m actually excited to find out what happens next.

Vulnerable

Hi folks,

Well, I’ve had a hard lesson over the past couple of days.  If you’ve been following this blog you already know My Lady K had a series of heart attacks and surgeries back in August.  The road to recovery is a slow process.   She’s not able to do much and the lion’s share of daily chores falls to me.

The big problem, and our vulnerability hit me this week when an injury to my foot made walking difficult and painful.  Fortunately, I’m on the mend, but it showed me just how fragile our situation here is.  It’s a bit scary to say the least.

Now to a brighter note.  The long awaited sequel to SUVI has arrived.  In this story we encounter not just the SUVI, but a host of new characters and unseen dangers.  For a quick peek inside, check here:

Amazon

Also, if you prefer a different bookseller, or want a quick preview of the book, or any of my books, check them out on this website.  All books have a preview for you. (The preview button is at the bottom of the page)

Now, I have to limp out to the kitchen and get busy.  With luck I’ll be able to steal some writing time later today.

Until next time

Progress

Hi folks,

Well, we’re making progress here on the recovery front.  It’s slow, but it is progress.  My Lady K is now having more good days than bad, and that is a welcome change.  Now, if I could only beat this damn insomnia crap.  I manage about four hours then I’m wide awake.  I had a few weeks of this last year and it’s still no fun.  I know, I know, welcome to the over sixty crowd.  I hear ya, fellow baby boomers.  I hear ya.

On the bright side, With K doing more for herself and by me not sleeping much, I am managing to get a bit more writing done.  Always a silver lining, right?  tee hee

Now, about ECHO, the sequel to SUVI.  The first round of cover consultations and the rough layout are done.  The completed cover should be ready any day now.  I know, I know, I promised you another peek at the story of ECHO.  First, here’s SUVI and where to find her. 🙂

Amazon

Right, excerpt from ECHO.

The small ship, Explorer, settled to the frozen ground and spilled out her crew.  They began to search through the ruins, eventually arriving at the resting place of Morthel and Antha.

“Carefully now, Mr. Sacumbtu, carefully.  We want to keep anything we find fully intact.”

“Understood, Commander Drake.  I’ve about got the doorway cleared now.  I’ll use a vac blower to suck out the dust and blow it away, so we can see what’s inside.”

Great clouds of dust rose into the cold, thin air and drifted away as he worked.  The same for three others who worked at different shelter domes nearby.  Eventually he turned off the machine and called out to his leader.  “Commander Drake, I think we’re ready here.  Do you want to go in first?”

“You know I do,” she replied, excitement clear in her voice.

Light penetrated the small habitat for the first time in eons, casting eerie shadows as the tall explorer entered and cast the beam around the first room.  As she entered a smaller room, she found Morthel with Antha held in her arms, still embracing, frozen in that pose of eternal love and death.

“Holy smokes!  People, I’ve got mummies here.  Do we have any way to protect and transport them back to the Reacher?”

“Lilly here, Commander.  We can use one of my sample crates.  There’s nothing alive here for me to take home.”

“Thanks, Lilly.  Bring a crate and a couple of guys to carry it.  We’ll have to be ultra-careful, I have no idea how brittle these guys might be.  We’ll have to keep them cold, too.”

Another woman soon arrived with two men carrying a large crate.  The two mummified bodies were gently loaded inside, she set the environmental controls, and then the men took the crate and stored it aboard Explorer One.  While this was being done, the commander checked in with the rest of the crew.

Okay, folks, that’s it for now.  With any luck at all the next post will have a cover for you and maybe even a link to a sales outlet.  Let’s hope.

Until next time
