I’ve been bantering with one of my characters on Facebook, and have been asked who she really is. Okay, here’s the Lady Hawk.
She is Dr. Rhonda Stockman, veterinarian. Rhonda was an emotionally abused woman who went into Veterinary Medicine so she could spend more time with animals than people. As she neared thirty years of age she was still single, and there was little trace of the happy mischievous child she had been.
One fateful day she stopped to try to release a young hawk that was caught in some wires. The hawk sank it’s beak into her arm just as there was an explosion. She awakened high above the land, but not falling.
After days of terror, denial, and dozens of other emotions, she came to terms with the fact she was a bird. At this point she noticed a woman and a bear on the ground. The bear changed into a man, and then back again. Rhonda followed them for weeks, hoping to learn the secret of controlling the change. In time, she did.
When Rhonda was blended with the hawk she took on it’s fierce and independent nature. Her mischievous side reappeared as well. This is how we find her in The Hawk and the Wolf, but she first appeared in The Vampire’s Lair.
Sometime this month I hope to release the latest story in Rhonda’s adventures. Keep watching this blog for a few teasers in the coming days.
